Learning at Temple Beth El

“Wisdom, understanding, and knowledge are the three pillars of the world.”

– Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel

At Temple Beth El, we believe that learning is sacred. It connects us with the Divine, strengthens our Jewish identity, and helps us grow as individuals and as a community. The pursuit of knowledge is not confined to a particular age or stage of life—it is a lifelong journey.

Through our diverse educational programs, we invite learners of all ages and backgrounds to explore Jewish tradition, history, culture, ethics, and spirituality. By fostering curiosity and encouraging inquiry, we aim to empower every individual to deepen self-awareness, strengthen compassion, and build a profound connection to the world around them.

Rabbi Alan Bell is teaching two courses in Fall 2025-Winter 2026:

The Jewish Experience in America

Session Dates: December 3, 10, 17; January 7, 14

With the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States, these sessions will focus on how Jews have contributed to and continue to make a difference in the life of our nation. From before the War of Independence with the arrival of Jews on the North American Continent to the current events of today’s “situation” involving Jews in this country, learn about the Jewish men and women who have shaped this country and are molding it for the next 250 years.

The Meaning in the Midrash

Session Dates: January 21, 28, February 4, 11

Many times, you will hear in a sermon or a Torah study class “there is a Midrash which says” or “the Midrash on this Parsha is…” Well, what is Midrash? Where do Midrashim come from? Who is the author or authors of the Midrash? When were they written and are they still being written? Study some of the better-known Midrashim, find out how Torah study is enhanced by Midrashim, and get a behind the scenes look at Torah personalities and their lives.

Each class will meet in-person at 10:00 AM; a bagel breakfast will be served.
