Adult Education

Judaism values life-long learning. Learning as an adult can stimulate deeper participation in Jewish life and generate new meaning for many other aspects of one’s life. It links individuals to a vibrant global community, and to the wisdom and life experiences of the Jewish People spanning centuries.

Temple Beth El promotes pluralistic and inclusive adult learning in both formal and experiential settings. Our courses expand your knowledge on a range of topics from Jewish studies, Jewish Mysticism, Torah & Psychology, Secrets of the Holidays, music, world affairs and much more.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah CLUB (BMC@TBE)

A special program that is unique to Temple Beth El.

BMC is a program that prepare the children and their family towards the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Each participant who graduates from the program and celebrates the Bar/Bat Mitzvah at TBE will receive a generous check of $1000.

BMC@TBE is a family journey in which we support each other, parents with the Synagogue clergy and staff by your side. BMC programs, events, and activities are carefully curated to suit the needs of each cohort, understanding that each participant enters their Jewish experience from a different perspective. At Temple Beth El, we are keenly aware of and sensitive to the needs of each family, and we pride ourselves on serving our community with dignity and love. During BMC, families will experience Shabbat & Holidays through the warmth of our musical experiences, explore sacred text through the lens of Judaism and, discover the richness and fulness of our faith, understand the spiritual side of Bar/Bat Mitzvah, learn the deep meaning of the prayers and the connection to the creation.

In addition, in BMC, families will have the opportunity to engage with holocaust survivors, perform acts of kindness, social action and learn about our homeland, Israel.

BMC meets weekly throughout the school year, with encounters occurring on and off campus when we have field trips.

Beth El Conversion Institute

Temple Beth El’s conversion institute aims to be the Palm Beach County extension of the conversion institute from Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus in Aventura, FL.

Two sets of classes (18 sessions each) are scheduled each year, with one beginning in August and the other in January.

A class in Spanish is also available up request.

The classes explore the differences between Judaism and Christianity, the Jewish life cycle, the Jewish calendar, Jewish ritual, prayer, Jewish history, modern Israel, Jewish Ethics and the Holocaust. Students will also learn how to read Hebrew and many of the rituals of Jewish life. Classes meet on Wednesday nights.

The class is not a “conversion” class in the sense that the class itself does not convert the candidates. Conversion must be supervised by a sponsoring Rabbi, a member of the Rabbinical Assembly, who works directly with the conversion candidate to help him/her through the process.  If you do not have a sponsoring Rabbi, we will help you obtain one.

The chairperson of the Institute in Dade is Rabbi Emeritus, Rabbi Ed Farber.

Conversions that are done through this Institute are accepted by all movements of Judaism outside of Orthodoxy and are recognized by the State of Israel.

A brainchild of Rabbi Gastón and Marcela Bogomolni, Reflections & Havdalah is an opportunity to get spiritually ready for the new week among friends in an intimate way. Reflections & Havdalah offers us the opportunity to reflect on the stories, people, and experiences that are hidden or overlooked, both within ourselves and within the wider world, and then invites us to hold space to honor these untold stories. Reflections & Havdalah is mainly held at people’s homes, always ending the night and Shabbat with a spiritual and musical Havdalah with some nosh.
