11 Pillars

Temple Beth El

“The more we study, the more we discover our ignorance.”
– Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Kabbaah teaches that the study of Torah is essential for spiritual growth and that the Divine can be found in all aspects of creation. Mussar teaches that humility and an awareness of our own limitations are necessary for spiritual development.

At Temple Beth El, we embody the teachings of Kabbalah and Mussar by cultivating a vibrant culture of spiritual growth and self-reflection. Through our commitment to the study of Torah, we provide opportunities for our community members to deepen their understanding of Jewish wisdom and connect with the Divine presence in all aspects of life. We recognize that the study of Torah goes beyond intellectual pursuit; it is a transformative practice that nurtures our souls and guides us towards a more meaningful existence.

Simchat Torah

Simchat Torah marks the joyous conclusion of the annual Torah reading cycle. We celebrate by dancing, singing, and expressing our love for the Torah, rejoicing in the continuous cycle of learning and wisdom. We open up the entire scroll in our iconic Fread Sanctuary and celebrate while singing famous paragraphs.

Pesach, the celebration of Passover, marks the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. We gather for seders, retelling the story of the Exodus, and reflecting on the themes of freedom, redemption, and social justice.

Yom Hashoa, Yom Hazikaron, Yom Ha’Atzmaut

Yom Hashoa, Yom Hazikaron, and Yom Ha’Atzmaut hold deep significance in honoring the memory of Holocaust victims, fallen soldiers, and celebrating the independence and resilience of the State of Israel, respectively.

Yom Yerushalayim

Yom Yerushalayim holds a special place of significance in the Jewish calendar as we celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem. At Temple Beth El, we honor Yom Yerushalayim with a sense of deep gratitude and appreciation for the spiritual and historical significance of this remarkable city. We gather as a community to reflect upon the profound connection that Jewish people have to Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel.

Shavuot marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, and we celebrate through engaging in study, prayer, and partaking in dairy-based foods. It is a time of deep connection to our traditions and the pursuit of wisdom.

Tisha B’Av

Tisha B’Av is a day of mourning and reflection, commemorating the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem and other historical tragedies. We observe this solemn day through fasting, prayer, and introspection.

Tu B’Av

Finally, Tu B’Av, the Jewish day of love, invites us to celebrate and appreciate the beauty of relationships and connections with others.

This prayer book offers a comprehensive collection of liturgy, readings, and melodies that enable us to engage in meaningful prayer experiences. Its carefully curated content reflects the rich tapestry of Jewish traditions and provides a platform for spiritual exploration and connection with our heritage.
